Yuri I Dolgoruky

(1154 – 1157)

The youngest son of Vladimir Monomakh, Yuri Dolgoruky, the power-hungry prince was the first organizer of the Suzdal princedom, which became strong and independent with him.

He settled in Suzdal and from here managed all the soy land, but southern Russia attracted him to himself. Leaving Suzdal land to his younger sons, he took Kiev after a stubborn struggle and became established in him, where he soon died.

Yuri did not use love of the people. The Kievites hated him so much that when he learned of his death, his rich mansions plundered him.

About Yuri memory remained, as the founder of the cities of Yuryev and Zvenigorod, the builder of churches and monasteries.
