For the underage of Ioann IV, his mother Elena Vasilievna, a woman with a mind and determined character, rules.
The five-year reign of Elena Glinskaya passed in constant turmoil. The first, in which Yuri, the brother of Vasily III, and Prince Andrey Shuisky were involved, ended in their imprisonment. The same fate befell Uncle Elena, Mikhail Glinsky. Another brother of Vasily III, Andrei Staritsky, raised an open uprising against the government. He was imprisoned, his followers cruelly punished.
During these troubles some princes – boyars fled to Lithuania.
In 1538 Elena Glinskaya died.
After Helen’s death, the government took over the management of the Boyar Duma, since Ioann was only 8 years old.
